The holidays are fast approaching, and with that, Americans are trying to figure out their holiday shopping and celebration plans. Since COVID and its effects are still lingering for the second holiday season in a row, the ENGINE Insights team set out to ask consumers what their plans are for the holidays this year. We ran surveys both at the beginning of August 2021 as well as at the beginning of October 2021 to see if consumer sentiment changed over time.
Are consumers planning on doing their shopping any earlier? Are they planning on celebrating with their families in-person? Do they have concerns about current inflation and supply chain issues?

Holiday Celebrations & COVID Concerns
While many consumers (57%) are still uncertain about their holiday celebration plans due to COVID-19, these numbers have decreased from August 2021 to October 2021.

Consumers are increasingly deciding to do their holiday shopping early this year (before Thanksgiving), and although the trend is moving downward, are still hesitant to shop in-person.
